Why Abacus

Founding Principles

Abacus Counselling and Support provides a service which is safe, ethical, and professional. This means Abacus ensures the safety of our clients, workers and the community, at all times. The service works towards the high ethical standards required in counselling and aims to provide a high quality and professional service, to our clients.

Qualified and Experienced Staff

Our counsellors are experienced in working with individuals, with a variety of presenting issues. Our counsellors are qualified in a range of therapies, which allows us to tailor our support to meet the needs of the client. All counsellors are qualified to Advanced Diploma Level or above, have Professional Indemnity Insurance and are DBS checked. All counsellors are members of the British Association of Counselling or Psychotherapy (BACP) and are either on or working towards being on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. All counsellors also have monthly supervision with an experienced counsellor, to ensure they are working safely and effectively.

Community Links

Abacus Counselling and Support has excellent links with Statutory Services and other community organisations, in the area. This helps the service to provide a service which is integrated with the wider counselling and support sector. If Abacus is not able to directly offer support, the service will aim to refer you to another agency that is able to assist you.

Support to Families

Abacus is a specialist in providing support to children, teenagers and parents, to help them deal with any issues within the family home and improve their relationships. Abacus believes that by helping families to have strong, happy, and positive relationships, it is working to improve the emotional health and well-being of the community as a whole.

Registered Charity

Abacus Counselling and Support is a registered charity, number 1163844. This means Abacus works to the standards set out by the Charities Commission.

Abacus is governed by a body of trustees. They meet every two months with the Senior Management Team, to discuss and monitor the work completed by the service. Abacus has an annual AGM, which is open to the public.

Registered with the Information Commissioners Office
